Forward South Bronx Coalition (FSBC) is a diverse group of community partners against, underage drinking and other substance misuse.  We were founded in 2011, at SFI (Sports Foundation, inc.), a forty year- plus, youth oriented substance misuse prevention program, under the supervision and guidance of the Children’s Aid Society’s Prevention Resource Center (PRC).

Thanks to Bronx Congress Member Jose Serrano, Sr., FSBC is one of only three, New York City-based community coalitions to receive the highly coveted five- year, Drug Free Communities (DRC) federal, grant  with the potential to renew for another five years, for a total of 10.  At the end of the ten years, FSBC is expected to be self -sustaining.

Our mission is to work towards an improved community environment, by using strategic Prevention frameworks(SPF) and logic models to devise evidence-based strategies to combat illicit substance misuse, among youth between the ages of 12-20, in the Longwood/Hunts Point section of the South Bronx.  Longwood/Hunts Point, encompasses the following zip-codes; 10455,10459 and 10474.

Because South Bronx has the dubious distinction of having one of the nation’s highest rates of opioid addiction, we were chosen by CADCA (Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America) to participate in a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) demonstration project, to destigmatize medication assisted treatment and to increase its capacity, by educating the public and assisting more primary care medical practitioners to become waivered and  sanctioned to offer MAT.
We are working closely with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to be able to offer medical professionals the necessary training to become waivered.
